In yesterday’s episode of The Doctor Oz Show, April 26, 2010, a bar tender shared this great juice recipe. Made from many fresh fruit and vegetable juices, it sounds so yummy! Add vodka or not. Enjoy!

Several days ago I wrote a post about Ani Phyo’s raw almond “mylk” (milk) recipe. It contains organic almonds, medjool dates, vanilla bean and water. It is technically not a milk because it is not the milk from almonds, hence the “mylk”. I made it this morning and love it! Lately, my morning vitamins (about 10) have been upsetting my stomach. I didn’t have this problem when I was using cow’s milk or soy milk, but because cow’s milk can have so many hormones and other non-optimum ingredients; and soy is very controversial right now, I decided to switch to almond milk. Then I found out that the brand I was using, and many others are packed with concentrated cane sugar. I decided to try the Almond Mylk recipe. It not only tasted delicious, but I did not have an upset stomach! Perhaps it was all of that sugar I had been consuming. Who knows!
Because Ani’s recipe for a protein shake suggested adding hemp protein nuts, I went ahead and added the nuts to the milk recipe. This will save me time in the morning. In the future I will skip this so that I can use the milk in other recipes like homemade ice cream.
If you check out the link to my earlier article you will find Ani’s video link. There you will notice she does not mention how long to soak your almonds. I accidentally started the recipe in the blender, forgetting to soak the almonds. So, I just left the almonds soaking in the water mixture for a day and reblend it. It came out perfect! Ani suggests to soak and rinse off the almonds prior to making the milk. Read the rest of this entry »
A chiropractor recently brought my attention to the fact that most almond milks are loaded with sugar. Sure enough, I looked at the label on the almond milk that I buy at Trader Joe’s and the second ingredient listed is evaporated cane juice! In this post you will find a link to a video which includes the recipe for an almond milk substitute. It is very easy to make and there is no cooking involved!
While watching one of Ani Phyo’s Raw Food Kitchen videos I learned how to make a very easy raw (uncooked) almond milk substitute. She calls it “mylk”. I already have tons of organic raw almonds. Now I just have to soak them. I am also awaiting my delivery of my organic Mejool Dates. She adds the bark from vanilla beans, water and a pinch of sea salt. Can’t wait! Between the hemp protein powder and this almond milk substitute I will be all set! Read the rest of this entry »
