“Truvia” Spoonable (Great Taste) to be released and Stevia News

Brand new, soon to be released on the market is the “spoonable” natural sweetener, Truvia.  It is made from a specific part of the the stevia plant which is the best tasting part of the plant.  Other stevia products consist of many different parts of the stevia plant.  It comes in a spoonable format (powdered), as well as packets for use in coffee, tea, etc.  It is a zero calorie sweetener.  Truvia in packet form can be found online, Walmart, Whole Foods and other grocery stores, but you’ll have to await the release of the spoonable form.  Check for other stores at the Truvia website.

Yacon Syrup

Yacon syrup is a natural sweetener pressed from the root of a yacon, a plant which grows in the Andes Mountains.  Yucon syrup is known as a sugar substitute because of the lack of glucose, which is great for those who have diabetes or are borderline diabetics.  Yacons look similar to sweet potatoes.  The syrup is sometimes compared to brown rice syrup or agave syrup, but thicker.  People refer to the taste of yacon syrup as being similar to molasses, caramel, apple and apple and caramel.  One manufacture of dried yacon slices refers to the fruit being between an apple and a watermelon.
