“THIS IS IT” DVD Review

I watched the Michael Jackson’s This Is It DVD the other day. Wow! I definitely give it a huge thumbs up! It definitely validates that he was the King of Pop! My favorite part was the bonus features. I had not made the time to go see it in the theater, but for the same price it would have cost my husband I to go see it in the theaters, we now have it forever! It left me with a feeling of wanting all of his music videos.

Adobe Photoshop: How to Change the Pixels in a Photo

Learning how to change or resize the pixels of a photo in Adobe Photoshop Elements has been a chore for me.  I never knew how to get the pixels that were grayed out available for editing.  I finally found out what to do!  This works on Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.

Photoshop Resampling

Changing Pixels in Photoshop

Click on “Image” in the above toolbar; then click “Resize” and “Image Size”.  If the pixels are grayed out, just check the “Resampling” box below and you will then be able to resize the pixels.  If you then wish to change the resolution of the photo, uncheck the “Resampling” box and change the resolution.  However, changing the resolution will change the document (print) size. Slingbox Review: Control your TV from your computer or mobile phone

About a year and a half ago my husband gave me the Slingbox Solo for my birthday.  If you have not heard about Slingbox you may appreciate my review.  I love to watch cooking shows and other shows from my laptop, right on my kitchen counter.  I can even minimize the screen to 4 automatic sizes, as well as customized widths.  This allows me to run other programs in a larger screen, in the size of my choosing.  This actually nothing compared to what else you can do with a Slingbox Solo.  There are several Slingbox products such as the Slingbox Pro HD and the SlingCathcer which I explain in this article along with my review on the Slingbox Solo. Features of Google Wave – release date 2010

Google Wave is an open source (anyone can use for developing) new online platform for real-time communication and collaboration which will be launched later this year.  Google has been developing this platform for the last year and half.  They are hoping to get some help on the development and wish others to host their own Wave applications.  A wave can be both a conversation and a document where people can communicate and share text, documents, photos, videos, maps, and more.  To learn about Google Wave you can either watch the 1 hour, 20 minute video through the link above or read my summary below.  Currently Google is limiting users by invitation only.  Learn where to request an invitation.

Google Wave is faster than email and instant messaging.  Google compares email to snail mail.  By contrast Google Wave is a tree structure.  It will be hosted by others, as well as Google.  The basic structure of Wave is that one person originates a communication and multiple individuals may leave their replies.

It will run via Internet Explorer when Google Chrome is downloaded, Firefox, and Safari.  You just add users.  Once you receive a message you just hit reply like email.  You can break up the message so that you can reply to several sections of the message or just one portion.  The characters show up as you type, versus waiting for the other person to hit send.  It really speeds up the conversation.  Google will be developing it so that you can turn off the instant typing and wait until you hit send for someone to read your full communication.  You can add another person to the message by dragging and dropping a person into the Wave.  If the original message had branched out to only a small portion of the message then the newly added user is able to hit “Playback” and will be able to see the entire chain of communications.  You can also add a private reply, to an individual.   Read the rest of this entry »

Personalized newspaper – write your own article and add photos

My father recently had a 95th birthday celebration and to capture it for years to come I created a personalized newspaper at TrixiePixie Graphics online, as if it were written by a newspaper reporter.  I had copies made for family members and gave them to everyone at Christmas.  It was a huge success!

I ordered the full size newspapers, but I suggest ordering just the front page because most people want to have it framed.

Here’s the article I wrote:

The 3 deadly conditions doctors misdiagnose in women and the 5 ways to protect yourself

In watching a recent episode of the Dr. Oz Show they discussed 3 conditions that are most misdiagnosed in women.

Stroke – In one women’s story her stroke was misdiagnosed as an ear infection

Hypothyroidism – (low thyroid) For one woman her hypothyroidism was misdiagnosed as menopause and possible depression.  Her advice was to be assertive and speak up for yourself.  Since hair loss is one of the symptoms of hypothyroidism, Dr. Oz says to grab some hair about the amount that would fill up a straw.  Gently pull from the root with your fingers to the ends of the hair.  The cut off is 6 hairs.  Anything else is abnormal. How to save your pet’s life: Hymlic Maneuver, Cuts, CPR

On the Dr. Oz Show, aired on December 14, 2009, they taught how to safe your pet’s life in an emergency.

How to perform the hymlic maneuver on your 4 legged pet.

Pick them up by the hind legs and shake them.  If that does not work, with the palm of your hand, hit them between the shoulder blades.  On a small dog, pick them up with their back towards your chest and with your fist pull up towards their chest, towards you a number of times…in and up…in and up.
